We are at a juncture when it is critical to get energized behind the strongest and best candidate to challenge Governor Rauner. Though there are many capable candidates seeking to take on the Governor ,Daniel Biss stands out in this crowded field. Daniel Biss is acknowledged by many to be one of the smartest people in Springfield.He has a mathematics background and as a State Rep and State Senator he has used his smarts to try to tackle and formulate solutions for many of the financial challenges facing our state and its citizens.
Daniel Biss has an understanding of the process in Springfield ,where in both the House and the Senate he has been not only an effective advocate for progressive legislation, but where he has been able to get legislation passed and continues to be an articulate spokesman for needed change and reforms. Daniel Biss has an understanding of the complex issues facing our state and has been in the trenches trying to come up with solutions that reflect the interrelationship of many key issues .For example, Daniel believes that reforms for School Funding, Real Property Taxes and State Revenue are intertwined. In the short term he believes we can come up with a formula for fair allocation funding of schools like the recent Senate BIll 1 which the governor has threatened to veto, create a more fair and equitable system of real property assessments for which he has introduced a bill; and try to help reduce local property taxes by some government consolidations and help increase local pensions funds by setting up a consolidated statewide system to increase earnings and in turn cut some local property taxes. On the revenue short term he supported the passage and the veto override of the recently passed budget due to the pressing need for a state budget to operate and pay bills.. On the long term, he supports a more fair income tax system and a constitutional amendment so we can have a progressive income tax and so that millionaires don;t get taxed at the same rate as the poor and the middle class. With a fair tax system in place he believes that the state should better fund our schools as it is required to do under the constitution , which in turn will help reduce local property taxes.
